Languages and Writings in China:

Han have their own language and writing which are called Chinese.  It is the official language of the country and one of the languages usually used in the international community.

The area where we speak Chinese is divided into seven under-areas of dialects subdivided in their turn in addition to 100. These languages played a particular role in the formation and the development of the Chinese nation. Significant components of the brilliant Chinese culture, they conceal a special cultural value.

Hui and Mandchous speaks and writes Chinese. The 53 other minority ethnos groups speak their own language. In general, an ethnos group speaks only one language, but some speak two or more.  According to statistics, China currently counts 72 ethniques languages others than Chinese. With regard to the families of the languages used in China, Korean and the language jing are not catalogued yet;  the others belong to the sino-tibétaine families, altaïc, austronésienne, austro-Asian and Indo-European.

In 2003, the ethnic autonomous areas counted 122 units of broadcasting which diffused in 15 ethnic languages, and 111 units of television which gave emissions in 11 ethnic languages. They had 73 radio stations with 532 stations of transmission, 94 television broadcast stations with 830 channels, and 254 900 stations of reception or retransmission per satellite for broadcasting and television.

The archaeological discoveries show that on the Chinese territory, on the whole they used 57 writings of minority ethnic groups from antiquity today. At the end of 2003, 22 minorities ethnic groups had their own writing for a total of 28. In China, as well in the fields legal, administrative and educational as in the political and social life of the country, the languages and the writings of the minority ethnos groups are largely used.

The writings of the ethnic groups mongolian, tibétaine, ouïgoure, kazakh, kirghiz, korean, yi, dai, lahu, jingpo, xibo and Russian have their long history.

The Mongols use a vertical writing in all the populated Mongol areas.  And the Mongols live in Xinjiang use in one writing different from the current Mongolian writing, which adapts to the characteristics of the local dialects. Dai in various areas of Yunnan use four different writings.

The majority of Lisu, faithful to Christianity, use a kind of reversed latin letters of printing works, and a small number serve of a writing known as "writing on bamboo", created by buildings.

A certain number of Zhuang, Bai and Yao use their respective writings in characters invented under the influence of Chinese.  Currently, the writings of the Mongols, Tibétains, Ouïgours, the Koreans and Yi have their own coding and their type of letters as well as the national standard of the keyboard.  The software of the writings of the Mongols, Tibétains, Ouïgours and the Koreans can be applied to the Windows system and the electronic composition with the laser.
